An art project called “Maskbook,” by the association Art of Change 21, is designed to raise awareness about air pollution and climate change, by getting people to design their own masks from recycled waste and transform dust masks as symbols of pollution into symbols of solutions. Maskbook, a project led by the non-profit Art of Change 21, was launched during the first conclave of the association which took place at Gaîté Lyrique, Paris, in 2014. Pink Flamingos, Moldir Bekzhan. The Art of Change 21 group asked us to share their Maskbook project. This has been running since 2015, but has new meaning in response to the pandemic. The aim of the Maskbook project is to get people involved, inform and be inclusive. Therefore, following the video’s publication, Art of Change 21 will launch a wider Maskbook campaign, addressed to everyone who wants to celebrate, in an innovative and creative way, their commitment to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, the fight against climate change and more generally the preservation of our planet. The concept of Maskbook was chosen as the movement’s pilot scheme and from there amplified to become an interactive, worldwide collaborative art project. Now, over 1500 people from over 25 countries around the world have had their creations included on the Maskbook website.

As a Maskbook workshop organizer, I pledge to adhere to the following principles: The workshop is not financially profitable and is based on the principle of volunteerism. Art of Change 21's challenge, particularly through the Maskbook project, is to change the mobilization by giving it life in a more creative, enthusiastic, joyful and participatory way. Maskbook is a Facebook of committed masks, just create your own mask and post it on the platform to support you. This video, supported by the Schneider Electric Foundation, kicks off a larger Maskbook campaign aimed at all those who wish to mark their support for the implementation of the Paris Agreement in a creative way, and for anyone who wants to join in the fight against climate change and, more generally, is interested in the preservation of our planet. Maskbook is an open source project and there are many ways people can take part in it. They can first build a mask through a workshop, or by themselves at home or digitally create it through Maskbook is an international, participatory and artistic project by the non-profit organization Art of Change 21.
